Gilda, a Brazilian immigrant living in Lisbon, has reached the end of the line. With a terminal illness and only one year left to live, her sole wish is to die while she is still herself. However, after four failed suicide attempts, Gilda is afraid to try again, which leads her to the clandestine organization Joy Transition International, which claims to teach people with terminal illnesses how to end their lives without pain.
